Jack’s Wife Freda – SoHo

With three locations: one in Soho, one in Chelsea, and the original in the West Village, Jack’s Wife Freda is a brunch where the American and Middle Eastern sides are in perfect harmony. For Middle Eastern fare, the menu features grilled halloumi, peri peri chicken wings, homemade Lebanese yogurt, and waffles made with rosewater.

For lunch, there are options of matzo ball soup, chicken kebabs, and mustard seed crusted tofu with spaghetti squash. (But we’re still thinking about the house-cured duck bacon, to be honest.)

These Mediterranean comfort foods have made Jack’s Wife Freda quite the haven for the elusive, foodie New Yorker. Each dish is not too heavy or too light, but function to give a fully balanced and fully satisfying meal.

With so much on the menu, this place is worth trying again and again. They’ve also got nice French wine, beer, a surprisingly placed English cocktail (Pimm’s Cup #1), and a cantaloupe mimosa.
